Oxidative processes and their significance

Oxidative stress in biological organisms is caused by an excessive production of free radicals. In order to reduce the detrimental effects of these, biological organisms are equipped with antioxidant systems, which scavenge reactive oxygen species. Dietary supplements with antioxidative activities are used in poultry, swine and cattle nutrition. Vitamin E is known to be one of the most potent single, fat-soluble antioxidants. Oxidative processes in metabolism has been shown to alter the feed intake, poor growth performance, immunosuppression, hypoxia, and high mortality.

Mode of action

ECsaver is a blend of standardized botanical elements with a high content of both water- and fat-soluble polyphenols, meaning that it possesses a high antioxidative potential. Science shows that such natural polyphenols have the potential to partially replace vitamin E in animal diets and that they can act as a natural performance enhancer in livestock animals. The natural polyphenols are present in the form of selected elements from plants like grapes (Vitis vinifera), rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis), quillaja (Quillaja saponaria) and liquorice (Glycyrrhiza glabra). For example grape seed polyphenols have a 20 times higher antioxidant potential than vitamin E, and one 50 times higher than vitamin C.

Recommended use to save vitamin E

ECsaver can be used in extruded, expanded and pelleted feeds, as well as in meal feeds. The product is formulated as a free-flowing powder ready for use by producers of premixes and concentrates, as well as by feed manufacturers and by home mixers. The product should be applied in feed formulation as standard to support the animals‘ metabolism. In specific stressful situations the inclusion rates may advantageously be doubled for the stress period.
